The Dangerous Method was formed in 2014, when Nashville-born singer and songwriter Joseph Jared traded his acoustic guitar for a Telecaster and a Marshall amp, and started playing with his wife Emily Jared (bass) and their friend Chris Ryan (drums). Taking their name from the film by David Cronenberg (which explores the origins of psychotherapy), the trio created a sound which fused the confessional melodicism of singer-songwriter music from the ‘70s with the quirky intensity of alternative and punk bands from the ‘90s, resulting in a potent blend of raw, Americana-tinged power-pop. The band played their first shows in Nashville the following year, and began crafting material for their debut record. Building from Joseph’s ambitious lyrical vision, the project developed into a concept album entitled “Cinema Junkie”, featuring 10 songs exploring movies, love, obsession and addiction.
