Martin Coughlin is a Scottish-born singer-songwriter, who has been living and playing in San Diego for most of his adult life. Leaving high school at seventeen in 1994, he pursued a three-year professional soccer career playing for Scotland's Glasgow Celtic. Upon returning to San Diego in 1997, Martin and his brothers, Gerald Coughlin and Paul Coughlin, founded a pop/rock band, Square Go, with moderate local success.
In the early 2000's, taking time off from music, Martin attended CSUSM, earning a B.A. in history, a teaching credential, and an M.A. in teaching. Putting his music on hold while starting a family, Martin has also been teaching history and coaching soccer at Westview High School since 2002.
In 2012, Martin returned to the San Diego music scene with the release of a 4-song EP, "Occupy Yourself", under the pseudonym The Gaffer.
