Hamid J is a singer/songwriter whose passion and love for music stems from his life experiences spanning from his time in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. Whether it was the highs of moving to the U.S. to pursue a better life with his family, or the lows of losing a close friend to suicide, music has always been the constant source of motivation and inspiration for him.
Hamid J had his first taste of music when he performed in his church choir, at the young age of six. He never went through any formal musical training but rather took more of a traditional route by pursuing his bachelors and master’s degrees in business. However, after writing lyrics and working on music for more than a decade he finally chose to pursue music - not just as a hobby - but as a profession.
His music is inspired by artists including, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Gavin Degraw, David Guetta, Sia, and P!nk. Hamid remarked, "These artists are not only amazingly talented vocalists, who have the ability to bring their lyrics to life, but are incredible examples of stunning entertainers.”
In July 2015 he recorded four new tracks ranging from pop, dance, and rock. In addition, he is working with musicians to record an acoustic set of original material as well as covers he deeply connects with, including Demi Lovato's “In Case” and “On Raglan Road” from the hit musical ONCE. His music and projects are as diverse as the list of artists he admires. Last year, he successfully launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to produce his first music video to “LOOK AT ME”.
Hamid often finds it difficult to identify with one primary music genre since his songs range from pop, dance, rock, r&b, acoustic, and folky/jazz. Blaming his idiosyncratic genre on his idiosyncratic mind, Hamid strongly believes that music has the power to impact people's life experiences. Playing such an important role in his life, he hopes that his art will do the same for others. Hamid affirms that even if only one person experiences the impact of his music, then all the hard work and sacrifices was worth it.
He knows that his best writing is a direct result of honest self-reflection of his personal life events. Whether it is touching on themes of love with his song "Look at me (part 2)" an uncomfortably honest and deep analysis of events leading to a breakup, or a song helping your partner overcome their insecurities of entering relationships through "Fallen", or by his proud acclamation of being deeply and madly in love in "I'm Captivated".
Sharing stories that travel with you on the highest hills and carry you through your deepest valleys is what drives Hamid to pursue his music. On the topic of happiness he explains:
"I've learned that comparing yourself to others can lead you to a dark path. What makes me happy is music, performing, and my friends. To constantly improve as an artist and as a person. Becoming a better version of myself every day - is what makes me happy."
